The Sunshine State Games returns for the 46th year of providing Florida amateur athletes of all ages the opportunity to compete in 11 sports beginning in May and continuing through June.
Since 1980, the Sunshine State Games has been a starting point for Florida amateur athletes who have aspirations to advance to further statewide competitions and national and international championships.
The original intent of the Games was introduced by then Senator Bob Graham, who wanted to increase the number of Florida athletes on the U.S. Olympic team after watching the 1976 Olympic Games.
The most recent success of the Sunshine State Games is Andrew Torgeshev, a skater from Coral Springs, who began competing in the Games in 2006, just shy of his fifth birthday. He was a member of the U.S. Figure Skating team at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics and earned a 12th place finish in a field of 29 skaters.
The 2026 Calendar of Events begins on Sunday, May 10 with Artistic Roller Skating, at Palm Beach County Astro Skate, in Greenacres. Artistic Roller Skating is one of the original Sunshine State Games sport, dating back to 1980.
The following weekend, the skating continues on ice at the 38th Sunshine State Games Figure Skating Championships at Advent Health Center Ice, in Wesley Chapel. A total of 348 skaters have registered to compete at the four-day event, May 14-17, with competitions taking place on two rinks.
During the traditional Sunshine State Games month of June, nine sports will be in action during all four weekends of the month.
Longtime favorites, Archery, Swimming and Table Tennis will be held in Alachua County, the original host of the Sunshine State Games.
Another original sport of the Games, Artistic Swimming, will be contested at the FAST Facility in Ocala, June 12-14. An all ages Pickleball event will be held the same weekend at the PicklePlex of Punta Gorda.
The very popular Water Polo tournament returns to Broward County and the Coral Springs Aquatic Center. Florida’s water polo claim to fame is Ashleigh Johnson’s rise from a young member of the Riptides Water Polo team to the two-time U.S. Women’s Olympic team’s goalkeeper.
The same weekend, Taekwondo returns to the Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus in Wesley Chapel for two days of competition for a variety of skill levels,
